Of course for reasons of security we cannot divulge details of our current projects, but here are some exceptions:
Scientific Secretariat for TAFS
SAFOSO is running the scientific secretariat of TAFS, a forum for Transmissible Animal Diseases and Food Safety.
Humanitarian Aid in Case of Zoonotic Disease Outbreaks
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) added a new leg to its Humanitarian Aid Unit and launched a working group for the prevention and management of zoonotic disease outbreaks (WG ZOD). SAFOSO has been mandated with the technical leadership of the group. The working group will support countries before, during and after outbreaks of zoonotic diseases with respect to preparedness and prevention, coordination of disease control measures, risk assessment and risk management, communication, contingency planning, and public awareness.
A pilot mission to Georgia has been completed. You can download the report here.
Requests for support by the working group can be sent to wgzod@safoso.ch.
Application of risk assessment in Vietnam
Risk assessment is an important decision-support tool in international trade of animal and animal products. Risk assessment can identify and qualify or quantify animal health and food safety risks, and is the basis for the development of risk-based surveillance systems. Technical capacities are a prerequisite to conduct sound risk assessment. In a cycle of two closely related workshops SAFOSO will train professionals in Vietnam to conduct risk assessments independently and guide them to prepare their own risk assessment reports.
Disease Prioritisation
SAFOSO is taking part in the DISCONTOOLS initiative as a member of the working group dealing with disease prioritisation.
