Sabine Hutter, DVM MSc
Sabine Hutter graduated from veterinary school in Vienna,
Austria, in 2001. She gained her first working experience
in the field in a veterinary clinic in Costa Rica, before
she started work as a veterinary surgeon in the United Kingdom.
She then complemented her education by doing a master's
in Veterinary Epidemiology at the Royal Veterinary College
and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
in London. The main focus of this master's degree was
on epidemiology, study design, risk analysis, modelling,
statistics, and animal health economics.
Subsequently she moved to Switzerland, completing a one-year
internship at the Swiss Federal Veterinary Office in Bern.
The main focus there was on zoonoses, and Sabine contributed
by designing and implementing various studies in the field
of food safety, as well as designing the draft for a Ph.D.
project on risk based sampling. Furthermore, she gained
insight into the daily works of a government office.
Sabine joined SAFOSO in the beginning of 2005. Two of
her main projects were BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy)
risk assessments in collaboration with the Animal Health
Services in two South American countries, and she participated
also in projects on Foot and Mouth Disease, Avian Influenza
and Newcastle Disease (recently in an EFSA Working Group).
In Ferbuary of 2007 Sabine has successfully completed
an OIE Training Seminar on the use of the "Performance,
Vision and Strategy" (PVS) tool for the evaluation
of Veterinary Services, and has already been sent on an
evaluation mission in Central America.
For personal reasons Sabine left Switzerland in April
2007 to live in Costa Rica, but she will still be available
for future projects with SAFOSO.
