Katharina graduated as a veterinarian from Zurich Veterinary School and obtained post-graduate qualifications from the Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland) and Massey University (New Zealand). Over the last two decades, she has conducted applied research on infectious diseases and zoonoses as well as methodological issues related to risk analysis, surveillance and animal health decision making. She has worked in diverse environments including government, private industry and academia in numerous countries.
Katharina is an experienced manager of large international scientific and educational projects. She is part-time Professor of Veterinary Public Health at the Royal Veterinary College, London, where she is leading several research projects on surveillance, zoonoses and food safety. She is also member of the steering committee of the European College of Veterinary Public Health. Katharina has repeatedly served on international working groups and expert panels on surveillance, risk analysis and public health. She is co-editor of the journal Epidemiology and Infection.
Katharina joined SAFOSO as senior consultant in 2010. Since 2014, she is Director of Science and Quality.
